Some applications run well above the 250–350 bar of classic couplings. For hydraulic breakers, heavy presses and special tooling you need quick-release couplings rated up to 700 bar.
High-pressure applications
Breakers and presses generate high static and impulse pressures with strong vibration. Standard poppet couplings fail quickly here; the connection must be reinforced and locked positively.
Threaded couplings
Screw-to-connect (threaded) couplings are the go-to design for 450–700+ bar. The threaded sleeve holds the halves together mechanically, resisting accidental disconnection under impulse loads.
Materials and seals
- Hardened steel bodies for high burst and fatigue resistance.
- Seal compounds (Viton, special NBR) chosen for pressure and temperature.
- Tight tolerances to avoid leakage at peak pressure.
Safety
Always depressurise before connecting or disconnecting, never exceed the rated pressure, and inspect couplings regularly for wear. Under-rated couplings are a serious safety hazard at 700 bar.
